This comes as we're hearing from local leaders after the governor extended the state's mask ordinance and safer at home order.

The masking ordinance was set to expire on monday -- but now you'll have to wear a mask in public places like these stores at least through october second!

Huntsville mayor tommy battle, decatur mayor tab bowling and madison county commission chairman dale strong say they're in support of the move.

Governor ivey said this decision comes as case numbers, deaths and hospitalizations are all going down - and she wants to keep it that way.

But she warns the fight isn't over.

"governor ivey ultimately, it's up to each individual to do our part.

If not for ourselves, for our family and friends.

We all want to get back to normal, and the way to do that is by wearing a mask."

State health officer dr. scott harris says the rate of postive tests has gone down to 8 percent statewide.

But-- he also says everyone needs to continue taking precautions.
