The Courthouse in Downtown Tupelo is trying to reopen after closing Monday.

The courthouse initially closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.

W-t-v-a's bronson woodruff was in downtown tupelo to talk to administrators about why the building remains closed to the public.

I'm here at the lee county courthouse in tupelo where they are trying to reopen soon.

I spoke with chancery clerk bill benson.

He said they are waiting for the test results to come back on the rest of their employees.

They were dismayed to find the building still closed.

It closed this past monday after one of its employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

Since then, people have had to take care of their business by mail, online, or through the drop box outside the courthouse.

Benson said hopefully the court house will be open tomorrow or friday.

He said a team professionally cleaned the entire building yesterday from floor to ceiling.

He added he appreciates the public's understanding during this time.

It's tough on everybody on the employees who are nervous, and it's tough on the general public who is nervous also, and we want to make sure everybody is safe before we open back up."
