Sylvan Beach expecting abnormal Memorial Day weekend due to restrictions

The residents and business owners at Sylvan Beach said that they're expecting a different Memorial Day weekend than they're used too.

And county officials announced that the beach could not meet the mandates to allow people to use the beach this weekend.

Those mandates included opening at 50 percent capacity as well as social distancing.

News channel 2's brent kearney spoke with residents about their expectations going into the weekend.

Normally on a day like today, main street in sylvan beach would be busier than it is.

None "there's not the crowds, normally motorcycles would be buzzing around.

We just dont see that as much with everything thats going on unfortunately."

The beaches may be closed on memorial day but the restaurants will be open for takeout.

"we just want everyone to be aware that sylvan beach as in all of the restaraunts and all other family owned businesses are still here.

We're still fighting everyday to keep going and that's what we plan on doing.

Up until the time that we can let people back into our restaraunt, we will be doing take out."

The question now is will people obey the order to stay off of the beaches this weekend.

Residents are expecting an active beach no matter what.

"i think the beaches are going to be packed, they want to get out of the house, they're going to do it anyways."

In terms of issuing tickets, the sheriff said hopefully not.

But regardless restaraunts and other local area businessare goe traffic.
