Cyclone Michaung in Chennai: City goes under before the storm

Residents of Chennai's core areas struggled as flood water did not recede despite receiving only 5.5 cm of rain. Neighbourhoods like Royapettah, Kodambakkam, West Mambalam, and Chidadripet were inundated. Kodambakkam's Azeez Nagar experienced ankle-deep water for the fourth consecutive day due to a blocked storm water drain and narrow culvert under the railway tracks. Municipal authorities have proposed widening the culverts to allow free flow of water. Efforts are being made to clear water through pumping and rescue operations are underway in affected areas.
