‘Storm’s proximity to Chennai led to long spells of rain’

Chennai is reeling under the impact of cyclone Michaung, leading to a shortage of water and essentials, electricity issues, and the need for people to seek refuge in government-run centers, service apartments, and budget hotels. Civil and military rescuers, along with Army helicopters, are providing assistance by evacuating residents and pets and dropping food packets. The city is facing challenges with flooding, with the main waterways Adyar and Cooum rivers at full capacity. The storm's proximity to Chennai and its stationary position for over eight hours contributed to the heavy downpour. The cyclone has also affected Andhra Pradesh, prompting relief measures and the deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams.
