Biblical literacy was on the wane in the 19th Century.
It left a fertile field for cults and metaphysical groups to rise up with “answers” to biblical questions.
They were not true answers, but to many, they sounded correct.
Christian Science was one of those groups and was founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy.
The teachings and doctrine were contained in Mary Baker Eddy’s 1875 book, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.” It is often not easy to leave a group like this because their can be and often is a high cost to leaving.
