The idea of "just let people enjoy things" has become one of those memes or sayings that lets people turn their brains off while feeling smug and superior for those thoughts.
Unfortunately, while it might apply for discourse on your favorite flavor of ice cream, it doesn't apply when some ice cream is laced with arsenic, and people are handing it out candy.
