Govt: Asylum level high due to Ukrainian and Afghan refugees

The schools minister says there are "real reasons" why immigration levels remain high, including the "generous" intake of refugees from Ukraine, Hong Kong and Afghanistan, but that the government is "committed" to reducing the number of people coming into the UK.

Nick Gibb makes the comments as the UK's asylum backlog hits a new record high, with 80 percent of people waiting longer than six months for an initial decision.
