National Cinema Day is meant to "celebrate the power of movies to bring us all together.".

The day is hosted by the Cinema Foundation.

Last year, 8.1 million moviegoers took advantage of the inaugural celebration.

It resulted in the most people attending movie theaters in all of 2022, the National Association of Theater Owners said.

This year's summer box office is currently 16.6% ahead of last year, according to Comscore.
