Indigenous protesters march on Brazil Congress

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Brazil’s capital on Monday, as part of an annual event known as the Free Land Encampment.

Music, dancing and speeches accompanied the demonstrators, gathering to oppose government policies that threaten their traditional way of life.

The march was attended by a party of indigenous leaders who were welcomed at the Congress by lawmaker Célia Xakriabá, herself a long-time activist for indigenous rights.
