Fresh violence erupted in Iraq after a powerful Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr said that he would quit politics.
The intensification of the incidents of violence has led to Iran closing its borders with Iraq.
Iran has also asked its citizens to avoid travelling to Iraq amid the increasing tensions in the country.
