Health minister appoints new chief nursing officer – August 23, 2022

At a news conference in Ottawa, Jean-Yves Duclos, federal minister of health, announces the appointment of Dr. Leigh Chapman to the newly reinstated role of chief nursing officer of Canada.

Dr. Chapman, a registered nurse with close to 20 years of leadership experience in varied nursing environments, will provide strategic advice to the federal government on health-care policies and programs. Joining the minister for the announcement is Dr. Chapman, as well as Mona Fortier, president of the Treasury Board; Sylvain Brousseau, president of the Canadian Nurses Association; and Marilee Nowgesic, CEO of the Canadian Indigenous Nurses Association.
