Arizona Priest Resigns After , Incorrectly Baptizing Thousands.

NPR reports an Arizona priest has left his position after being found to have incorrectly performed baptisms his entire career.

Catholics baptized by Reverend Andres Arango may be shocked to find their religious rites have never been valid.

According to the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, Arango used the wrong phrasing while performing baptisms until June 17, 2021.

While performing a baptism ceremony, the reverend would say, "we baptize you in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.".

The diocese explained the reverend should have said, "I baptize.".

It is not the community that baptizes a person and incorporates them into the Church of Christ; rather, it is Christ, and Christ alone... , statement from Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, via NPR.

If you were baptized using the wrong words, that means your baptism is invalid, and you are not baptized.

Arango has supposedly used incorrect phrasing performing baptisms since entering the priesthood in 1995.

The priest was apologetic for the harm his actions may have caused the community.

He resigned from his post on Feb.

Though he remains in good standing with the diocese, Arango says he intends "to help remedy this and heal those affected."
