Sparks flew out of a car after it smashed into guardrails in southern China.

The dramatic video, shot in the city of Mianyang in Sichuan Province on April 7, shows a car suddenly speeding into the guardrails in the middle of a road.

The car then rolled along the road continuously before it moved out of view.

According to reports, the motorist suddenly launched his car to escape a police checkpoint as he was drunk.

However, the car then lost control and smashed into the guardrails.

Since the motorist named Yin wore a seatbelt, he only suffered minor injuries.

He was confirmed to be driving under the influence.

Police have revoked Yin's driving licence and he will be given criminal penalties.

The case is under further investigation.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
