Uttarakhand BJP chief is under fire for calling Leader of Opposition 'Budhiya' (old woman).

BJP's Bansidhar Bhagat publicly called senior Congress leader Indira Hridayesh a 'Budhiya'.

Bhagat was addressing BJP workers at an event in Nainital's Bhimtal on Tuesday evening.

Video of the state BJP chief's address soon began to make rounds on social media.

It came while Bhagat was responding to a recent claim made by the 79-year-old Congress leader.

Hridayesh had said that several BJP MLAs were in touch with the grand old party eyeing a switch.

Bhagat's use of the term was perceived to be derogatory by the Congress party.

Congress leaders demanded an immediate apology while some party members burnt bhagat's effigy.

Reacting sharply to the statement, Hridayesh said she was 'hurt and saddened' with the kind of language used.

Amid furore over the incident, CM Trivendra Singh Rawat apologised to Hridayesh on Twitter and said he would call her on Wednesday to apologise again.
