Schools go remote amid surge in COVID cases

Rome, Oriskany and Sauqoit Valley schools are going remote as cases continue to rise through the holiday season.

Districts are turning to fully remote learning for an extended period.

First rome schools superintendent peter blake says the new, remote learning schedule in his district begins today and continues through at least january 8th.

Blake says staff quarantines are making it extremely challenging and stressful on in- person staff to keep the schools open.

On friday.... the district learned of three positive cases....one in three different buildings.

That resulted in so many student and staff being quarantined...that all three buildings will be closed for two weeks.

Sauquoit valley is going fully remote starting today, until at least january 3rd.

And, citing covid-19 dashboard trends and review of information from the oneida county health department..... oriskany schools are going fully remote today through january 8th.

Oriskany hopes to return to a hybrid model on january 11th.

Also...brand new this noon.
