The hospital is currently caring for 60 coronavirus in- patients between the hosptial and its newly-opened parkway clinic.

Waay 31's sierra phillips explains how the hospital is dealing with the surge.

Kelli powers - "i'm holding 9 patients in the er now just trying to find regular beds for those patients" decatur-morgan hospital president kelli powers says it's getting harder for the hospital to find ways to care for all of its in-patients.

The i-c-u is at full capacity as of monday morning.

And powers said there are also covid-positive and presumptive patients in the emergency room.

She says as the holiday season continues - the situation in morgan county could continue to get worse.

Powers- "i'm worried about the fallout of thanksgiving and then what it does in the christmas season" mayor tab bowling noted that the county added 244 cases over the thanksgiving weekend.

And he says you need to consider what you're doing now as we look ahead to the winter holiday season.

Bowling "our actions in this season are so very important to the well being of ourselves, our families and our business community please use care as you consider your holiday plans" but ahead of the winter holidays - powers said they will able to expand their capacity at the parkway clinic.

There's a staff orientation on monday.

Once it's complete - it will allow them to care for 15 people, nearly doubling the current capacity of 8.
