Chico High School's football team is practicing again.

Action News Now spoke to a senior football player about what it means to him.

The chico unified school district is working to get kids back playing school sports... action news now reporter amy lanski joins us live at chico high.

Amy, what's the plan..

And can it be done safely?

They're basically practicing without physical contact alan.

I spoke to athletic director jason alvistur.

He says right now only football... volleyball..

Cross country... field hockey..

Cheerleading..

And ski and snowboard..

Are holding practices.

Alvistur is also the football coach and explained they are practicing with just shirts and shorts..

No pads..

He says they are focusing on conditioning drills and installs with offense and defense.

"it's honestly like the best feeling bver because i am back with my team.

I miss my boys you know, that is my family.

I have one year left it would suck if i had to sit at home."

"practices have so much energy and excitement the kids are flying around and they are happy.

It is just pure joy they have been cooped up for six months and they wanted to bust out and have fun and get better."

Coaches are also making sure kids are wearing masks and staying six feet a part.

Alvistur says everyone has access to hand sanitizer and sanitize equipment after each days use.

The first football game is scheduled for january 8th.
