Bronx bombers.

Evansville has produced many professional athletes..

And reitz grad elijah dunham is adding his name to that exclusive list.

The former iu hoosier recently signed with the yankees and tells andrew garcia while he has accomplished so much..

His end goal is to suit up for the bronx bombers.

On june 17th of this year, evansville's elijah dunham signed a contract to play baseball for the new york yankees.

It was a dream come true.

It was bitter sweet, it was all the hours in and all the time and it was just something that i've been dreaming of since i was a kid and the goal is not done yet, this is just a stepping stone for the goal that i eventually want to be in mlb.

So this is just another stepping stone in the process.

The reitz grad credits his time playing for the panthers and in evansville to his success.

Around evansville i think there are really good baseball players around here and it's just like that with every sport i feel like our little sack of southern indiana just doesn't get love from indy and all these different areas and just being able to go to iu and go play with the premier team in indiana and getting to go play pro and represent this area means a lot.

Though there will be no fall baseball this year, the former iu hoosier is still in contact with the organization and preparing for spring training in 2021.

The plan was i was going to be leaving this week but the yankees just canceled their fall instructional leagues.

They are one of two teams to not have anything for their minor leaguers so i am just starting my off season now from january until winter voluntary hitting camps start.

Dunham isn't the first person from evansville to be a part of the yankee organization and hopes to have success similar to don mattingly.

He called me for the marlins actually because they were one of the teams that were trying to sign me and so i actually got to talk to him about the marlins organization.

It was nice just getting to talk to him especially when we talked about his experience, just because he was relating to being an evansville guy and he's just a good dude and it's kind of cool to be following in
