// organizers tell me the drive wrapped up early because they gave away all the coats.

I spoke with people earlier who tell me they're grateful this distribution is able to fill a need in the community.xxx a coat drive seems fitting on a cold october day... and it's necessary for several people and families in rochester.

It's a need the salvation army fills annually, but this year is different.

(suzie oliver, volunteer): it's colder haha ?*- and we have to socially distance so we're not able to help them quite as much as we used to.

Suzie oliver has volunteered for the salvation army for nearly a decade.

She and the other volunteers know the pandemic is making the need even greater.

(suzie oliver, volunteer): we have more people who have lost their jobs.

We have more people who don't have enough resources.

So sharing our resources is really important.

Recipients of the warm winter gear are grateful for the generous donations.

(andy olson, recipient): people need it.

I mean it's going to be a long, cold winter.

And then with covid and everything, it makes it extra difficult.

The salvation army continues to be a valued resource in the rochester community.

(suzie oliver, volunteer): we will always have people who don't have enough.

And this drive will really help them to stay warm and have what they need./// the salvation army is still taking donations in order to help more people.
