It basically says 17-year-olds can vote in primary and special elections*i* they turn 18 before the general election.

So let's use this year's calendar as an example.

The primary election was on march 3rd.

Someone who didn't turn 18 until june 23rd, for example, june 23rd being a shout out to our producer chase napear, could not vote in the primary.

But they*ca* vote in the general election, november 3rd.

Prop 18, if passed, would let that 17-year-old to vote on march 3rd in order to have a say in the general election ballot.

Proponents say it would give a boost to youth civic engagement and help create more lifelong participants in the democratic process.

Opponents say the law is 18 for a reason.

The logic and reasoning area of younger brains are not fully developed.

And those abilities are vital to responsible voting.

So a yes on prop 18 gives 17-year- olds the chance to vote in primary elections if they turn 18 before the general election.

A no on 18 says "keep it they way it is."
