One North Alabama group teaches people how to look out for sexual abuse happening to children.

They train community members to keep kids safe.

Let's bring in waay 31's ashley carter with a closer look now at the changes and how you can get involved.

It's called the stewards of children program and it's offered by the national children's advocacy center.

The entire training program is now virtual, so anyone in the community can join in.

It features real people and their stories to offer advice and guidance on how to protect kids from sexual abuse.

During the program, participants learn key signs to look out for and ways to handle potential abusive situations.

The n-c-a-c community awareness and prevention director-- pam clasgens--said the pandemic doesn't stop child sexual abuse from happening, so it was important to find a way to keep the program going so they could continue to train the community on protecting children "sexual abuse is an ongoing problem in our community and in every community across the country and as i said, 1 in 10 children is going to be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.

We don't want to see that happen.

We want to protect kids and we want everyone to know how to make that happen."

As we know, sexual abuse can happen anywhere, clasgens said it's important to report any inapropriate behavior you may see to the proper channels immediately.

We do have the information posted on our website about how you can get involved in the trainings.
