A portion of Thermalito annexation proposal will go to city council

The Planning Commission for the city of Oroville passed a motion that recommends to the Oroville City Council that they initiate a portion of Thermalito.

New tonight - a portion of thermalito may soon be annexed into the city of oroville.

Action news now reporter esteban reynoso is live in thermalito.

Esteban, why does oroville want to annex specifically a portion of thermalito?

I'm here on feather rd and 18th st in thermalito, where this vacant lot behind me could be annexed into oroville but residents in thermalito are against it.

"we're just frustrated and tired of it."

Residents of thermalito showed up to this special planning commission meeting to voice their concerns.

"we don't want to be in the city limits."

Leo depaola, assistant city administrator told action news now almost a week ago the reason why oroville wants to annex thermalito.

"well annexations have been spurred by development.

Most of the development, residential development anyways has been happening on the west side."

And thats exactly where this vacant lot is.

On feather rd and 18th st, where a proposed 97 houses could be built.

"the motion carries with 6 yeses and 0 noes."

The planning commission passed a motion to recommend to oroville city council to initiate annexation proceedings on this plot of land.

"the city has nothing to offer us but more taxes and more crap that we don't need."

Still neighbors in thermalito think the city of oroville is already stretched thin enough.

"so what are we gonna do building 97 more homes, and keep building and building for what?

We don't have the resources.

Why can't they just leave us alone?"

This plot of land behind me if annexed into oroville will add 25 acres to the city limits.

Live in thermalito, esteban reynoso for action news now coverage you can count on.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for october 6th at oroville city hall at 4:30 pm.
