The bath county high school boys soccer team, has canceled games for the rest of its regular season.

It's just one of several teams across the state, announcing cancelations, because of the coronavirus.

According to the bath county athletic department... the soccer team played at morgan county on thursday... and one of the soccer players on that team, tested positive for covid-19 yesterday.

Because of the possible exposure... the soccer team is now under quarantine until october 8th... canceling the rest of its games.

The season was previously scheduled to end on october 4th.

Meanwhile..

According to the districts corbin, whitley county and williamsburg have also canceled sports competitions for this week because of the rising number of covid-19 cases in whitley county.

And in anderson county..

According to the anderson news, the seventh grade girls' basketball team is under quarantine... after a middle school student tested positive in the county.

The paper reports that the freshman football team is also quarantined, after a game last saturday against a mercer county team..

Whihc has a student who has tested positive.

According to governor andy beshear..

At least 44 high school sports teams are now quarantined in the state.

"it does mean that those schools are doing the right thing.

And local health departments are doing the righ tthing.

But it's something we have to watch very carefully.

And with those escalating cases, with the challenges that we are seeing right there in sports, with our kids going back to school, in many places to or in some version, we need urgency, from everybody."

Says there were 456 new cases of covid-19 today.

The total number of positives in the commonwealth is now...at least 66,939.

According to governor beshear..

Eighty-three of the new cases... were of children ages 18 and younger.

Beshear also reported five new covid-19 releated deaths today.

The total number of people who have died from the virus in the state..

1,162.
