Good evening and thanks for3 joining us.

I'm patrece dayton.

And i'm rondrell moore..

The area's largest school district is the next stage of its "full" in-person learning plan.

Today, some elementary schools in vigo county returned for five-day-a-week ..

In-person instruction.

Let's take a look at the district's latest covid-19 dashboard update.

It shows two students and two staff members corporation wide have positive tests, with campus contact.

"30" students and "12" staff members are quarantined.

The information will be updated again on wednesday.

Our porsha williams visited one of the elementary schools today.

She joins us in the studio with how today went, and what's still ahead.

The vigo county school corporation is taking a phased-in approach to full-time in-person learning.

Today, eight of the 15 elementary schools came "off" o the a-b cohort schedule.

Those schools are deming... franklin... hoosier prairie... lost creek... riley... sugar grove... terre town... and west vigo elementary.

Students at these schools will be in the classroom five days a week.

They hope to add the remaining seven elementary schools on october 6th.

I was at sugar grove elementary today as school let out.

It's the first time all of these students were together this school year.

This phased approach allows school officials to see how things go, like a trial run.

They want to ensure mitigation methods work as planned.

They say ..

If everyone keeps doing their part it should be no problem making that happen.

"kudos to our teachers who have been flexible yet again spreading those desks out and i've seen a lot of great mask wearing from the students and the staff and that's really what's going to keep us in this 5 day a week format."

Riley says there will be an update by the end of this week on what happens next.

For now, middle schools and high schools will remain on their split a-b schedule.

We'll of course update you as the schedule changes.
