Is coming up./// this pandemic is leading to feelings of isolation among residents in senior living communities.

... but a bird song is welcoming a new day at the waters on mayowood senior living community.

Kimt news 3's isabella basco joins us live in rochester to share a story we hope will be punctuated by a cascading chorus.

George... roughly a month ago... one of these parkaeets landed on the lap of a guest ?*- here at the waters on mayowood.

Staff brought the bird inside... then bought a cage for it.

Residents fell in love with the parakeet and named her jasmine.

Now... 4 parakeets are taking refuge at the waters ?

"* and they aren't leaving anytime soon.

Xxx nats of parakeets "in the morning, before i go blow my bubbles, i come and i talk to them."

During times of uncertainty.... "and i think they know me and then i come different times during the day ?

"* and talk to them."

Residen here ?

"* are finding friens in the most unlikely of places.

And it all started with a surprise visitor.

"jasmine had flown in into one of our bushes and our family members were trying to catch her during the outdoor visiting hours and we have baby ducklings and other birds that join us.

She was taking some snacks and i went outside and helped everyone corner her."

It wasn't long before jasmine became their friend.

"first minute, the residents have been smiling and talking about her and to her."

And everyone fell in love with her.

"just everyone coming together ?

"* to enjoy something new that brought people together during a time when they weren't."

Staff later brought in three other parakeets... sparking unforgettable connections.

"i come down here and talk to the birds and go out and then i go down either for lunch or at night and i talk to them too.

I feel they are friends."

Teaching them lessons.... "all nature is stressful, you know, even trees and flowers, we all have stress."

That will resonate... as we wait for the parakeets have a permanent home here at the waters.

Residents are asking the executive director to bring more bird cages and parakeets in the building.
