HORRIFIC BOATING ACCIDENT ON FOURTH LAKE

Four people remain in the hospital after a horrific boating accident on 4th lake in old forge.

Police say a drunk driver of one boat ran right into a party barge boat carrying 5 people...four of them are in the hospital...three in critical condition....two of those three are six- year-old boys.

News channel two's gary liberatore has more now from the town of webb.

.the town of webb police chief tells me that there were members of two separate families on that party barge, they were basically fishing right here on fourth lake where fourth lake meets third lake right back here./ nearing the middle of september, it was already dark around 8:10 saturday night when police say a ski boat designed to pull water skiers and tubers driven by 22 year old carter lawrence of old forge barreled right into a pontoon boat driven by 42-year- old scott delmedico of sauquoit.

Smeone staying in one of thee camps here shared this photo with us, and you can see the massive amount of damage to the pontoon boat.

Police say carter lawrence was drunk.

None tc: 09:37 .this is just some of the debris that is left from the boats& it is, this morning we got a call from some of the neighbors that this debris had floated up on the shoreline.

A lot of heavy impact on the pontoon boat, high-speed here that was involved, it was dark out, yeah, it was for having me forensics team go over both lighting, itll be processed to see what was working and the mechanisms on both boats./ town of webb police chief ron johnston says the impact was horrific and sent all four passengers of the ponton boat into the water tc : 10:51 .did you talk to the driver of the boat that was struck, i did, he indicates that he was out with him his boy, another friend and their son and a grandfather, they were just here right at fourth lake fishing and they were barely moving when the accident occurred./ tc : 11:17 .the boat never saw them, they report that the boat was straightahead and never changed course./ tc : 11:45 .i saw a horrific scene, the pontoon boat was completely destroyed, it was evident there was severe injuries that occurred on that vessel.

And i think that the emergency responders and the neighbors that acted his first responders were great, they did everything that they could to minimize and help./ tc : 12:24 .how about the driver of that pontoon boat, how was he able to not sustain injury?

Thats a good question, he was just in the right position, he was the only one on the boat that was not severely injured, he had some lacerations and whatnot and ended up going into the water, but hes a hero, he jumped in the water and helped other people thatwere trauma./ tc : :26 .and injuries to thperson who waarref mecal, any medil treatment here at thscene.
