City of Logansport honors victims and first-responders during annual 9/11 Ceremony

Our top story at six -- logansport joins the nation in honoring the thousands of lives lost on september 11, 2001.

The city held its annual 9-11 ceremony today -- but with local first responders in mind.

News 18's micah upshaw tells us why.

Look live: while september 11th will always be remembered as a day of tragedy here in our country, it's also remembered as a day of new found unity, and that's what first responders are holding onto today.

R: to be able to come out and remember not just the tragedy but what came from it and how everybody came together, no matter what you're beliefs were you came together as a united states.

M: the 9-11 ceremony isn't new to the logansport community -- but every year brings a new found appreciation for first responders who lay their lives on the line.

T: it's single-handedly the day that the most firefighters police officers lost their lives in a totality of all the other victims as well so to remember and carry on their names and always remember them.

M: this year, organizers wanted to focus not only on honoring the victims and the first responders who fought to save lives in new york city -- but also honoring emergency workers right within the community.

R: we all face the same things, time away from our families, the job, the things we see so whether you're in logansport, or new york or chicago, we're all a brotherhood and a sisterhood.

M: mayor chris martin says this year's ceremony included a new tradition -- hanging one flag with a blue stripe to honor fallen officers and another flag with a red stripe to honor fallen firefighters.

C: without the public safety, our local communities don't run we don't operate so we definitely need to show a little more appreciation and respect for those men and women who are serving our city and our towns and our communities.

M: reporting in logansport, micah upshaw.

News 18.

The ceremony was held in downtown logansport.

Mayor martin says the city plans to keep the flags hung at half staff all weekend.
