Northwest missouri today.

Good evening and thanks for joining us.

Visiting western prison and the veteran's home in cameron -- and he got to see something today that hasn't happened since the pandemic shut down the state.

The walkers haven't held hands since march.bonnie walker, wife of a veteran: "it's been really tough and a long time."

Bonnie walker's husband richard is a vietnam vet and resident at cameron veterans home.bonnie walker, wife of a veteran: "i used to get to come and see him every day."

Then the pandemic hit.it's been six long months -- but finally, the walkers can hold hands again.and the governor was there to see it.gov.

Mike parson, r- missouri: "it was great being able to see some of the family getting that first interaction with their loved ones where they can touch them again and do some of those fundamental things."governor mike parson visited the home to see the hand-holding station -- and to thank the staff at the home for taking care of veterans like richard walker.gov.

Mike parson, r-missouri: "when it comes to the administration of the veteran's home and the people that work here just thanks and just appreciate what an outstanding job the toughest environments we've he says we all owe a special thanks to all leave their loved ones -- and go to work to care for ours.gov.

Mike parson, r-missouri: i think also for the employees you know it's been a tough stretch for them.

They have to come here and make sure they're safe when they come into the home so that adds a little stress into everybody's life.

Plus they have families at home they have to worry about making sure they stay healthy."

On top of that veterans and nursing homes, long-term care facilities, hospitals -- all have had the difficult job of striking the right balance between mental and physical health.with no clear answer about what that is.gov.

Mike parson, r-missouri: "the other thing is just how they have handled the situation you know trying to just make sure to take all the risk out that you could but it's also a tough time on families.

Families can't see their loved one for a long time and we are wanting to get that opened back up but still do it safely."bonnie walker says she's thankful for cameron's veteran's home staff..-- and really finally hold richard's hand again.

Bonnie walker, wife of a veteran: "i feel silly but it's not silly to me.

It feels really good."
