A vote was passed at Wednesday night's common council meeting to allow signs to go up on Kemble Street between Grove Place and Hobart Street in Utica saying "Essential Workers Way".

Aow sign to go up on kemble street between grove place and hobart street, saying "essential workers way".

Council member jack lomedico says it's important to honor all the essential workers like police officers, firefighters, nurses, day care workers, and bus drivers who worked through the coronavirus pandemic this year.

They had to worry about the virus and still went to work everyday.

Some essential workers contracted covid-19, exposed their family members, or even passed away from the virus.

So with that being said the city of utica would like to honor them.

"years from now we are going to look back on this year 2020, and we'll remember this is the year of the coronavirus.

When they're going down kemble street between hobart and grove place, they'll see something out there, and just a little "i remember that year".

Hopefully we won't have too many after that, hopefully (the virus will be) gone by then.

No word yet on when the sign(s) will go up, but the council says it could be within the next one to two weeks.
