Hundreds of pro athletes are demanding justice over the police shooting of jacob blake... in wisconsin.

This has caused players to boycott games from the nba, wnba, major league baseball and others.

Kezi 9 news reporter julian mininsohn spoke with athletes and coaches from our community about the stance pro athletes are taking.

(julian) the shooting of jacob blake has caused many athletes across pro sports to voice their frustrations.

It isn't just the big names like lebron james.

Even former ducks basketball star satou sabally didn't hold back her emotions when talking about the events that happened in kenosha.

(satou) "we can't enjoy any wins.

We can't enjoy any losses.

There's a lot of things happening in this country and we need to put the focus on that."

The same sentiment has been shared across other professional sports.

Nba superstar lebron james has been at the forefront of this movement...as has oregon assistant basketball coach michael mennenga.

Mennenga says what's happening at the pro level can influnece collegiate and prep athletes pushing for change in their community.

(michael) "we want to motivate and insprie them to understand that their platforms are a place to empower themselves.

Lebron made the comment after his playoff win.

He said i'm not an nba player.

I'm a black man.

I'm a human.

My focus is here."

The nba plans to resume its season friday... although many say the players should continue to boycott, mennenga believes they can use their spotlight to continue the message.

(michael) "i see the sense in the nba stepping up, and by boycotting it's put a huge spotlight and pressure in what's happening."

(julian) coming up at 5, i'll talk with one local soccer team that could be changing its name because of joseph lane's racist views.
