The New Hartford School District plans to start the school year with full remote learning.

Hartford.

The school district has decided to make a change in their reopening plans.

The school board voted unanimously at their virtual meeting, to start the school year with a full remote opening on september 9th.

School was originally supposed to start on the 8th, but that was changed to a superintendents conference day.

After 6 weeks the district will reevaluate the situation.

Superintendent robert nole says that despite their best efforts to prepare the district to safely educate students in-person, there are just too many unknowns when it comes to the coronavirus.

Some teachers and parents expressed concerns to the board about the districts ability to remotely educate students.

"i was in my classroom yesterday and we do not have any hardware in our classroom yet.

There's no monitor in my class room.

There's no video camera in my classroom.

Nothing is set up and ready to go.

I can plan.

I've made packets.

I can do all that and have my google classroom, but the technology piece is really not ready to go yet for us to feel comfortable."

School officials assured the teachers that they do have most of the needed equipment for remote learning, but there is a shortage.
