OSU offers flexible housing options to students
The majority of classes at OSU will be offered remotely.

Or two.

With school just over a month away -- most students at oregon state will be staying at home.

But for those who do attend in person.... the question becomes: where to live?

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy joins us live in the studio to explain their options in this very unusual fall.

Kennedy?

Matt, renee-- osu officials told me today that*5,000 students typically live on campus.

But that number is expected to drop to around 3,000 this year because of the pandemic.

And with the majority of classes at osu being offered remotely, students are asking: is living on campus worth it?

"your choice is a personal one."

At osu, even*first year students get to choose where they will be living this fall... but that's*only because of the pandemic.

"we will respect your choice.

If you feel it's safest to be at home, wherever that is will provide an osu quality higher education to where you live.

It's your choice as well.

We also understand that everything is changing."

Typically, if you sign a housing contract, you're locked in.

Even if you withdraw or are dismissed.

I'm told that*so far*4,000 students have registered to live on campus in the fall.

And already 400 have broken their agreement.

"we will allow them to leave their contract with university housing and dining services, and they will only pay for the time spent in the residence halls."

And covid-19 testing will be*extensive.testing "we've been doing that in corvallis and bend, newport, most recently in hermiston, since april.

So over the next several weeks, all of fall term, we will test, 1000, up to 1000, faculty, staff and students."

Because as he told me today...safety is the number one priority.

"we'll have isolation and quarantine units in our residence halls have a student and their family feel that if they tested positive it's best to go home, we'll support them in that regard.

And welcome them back when they're when they're healthy.'

The student will be tested on the*spot and those results will come back within the hour.

If they test negative, they will find out on their university web portal.

If they test positive, they will receive a call.

Western oregon university just announced today that 95 percent of their fall courses will be delivered online.

Previously classes were scheduled to be in-person, hybrid as well as online.
