New Wave of Financial Relief Coming

Governor Beshear announced a new plan for those out of work meant to help make ends meet.

Cases.

Also in the bluegrass --- kentuckians -- sending out an s-o-s ---- screaming for financial help.

Tonight - governor andy beshear is sending in a rescue team.

Our chief western kentucky bureau reporter erran huber - is in henderson -- with what this means for you - where do we go?

I have no idea where we're going.

This month--from coast to coast-- as the days tick down to the end of august.

Americans continue to struggle to cover the bills-- amid the economic impact of covid-19.

Including rent-- creating an emotional and physical toll.

"this is beyond iyanni and i now.

This isn't about us anymore, this has surpassed us."

New federal legislation--up in the air--but amid the back and forth in congress-- kentucky governor andy beshear--sharing that financial relief is on the way--for thousands of kentuckians facing a tight budget--while they remain out of work.

"to receive additional payments of 400 dollars if they're under employed or unemployed as a result of the pandemic."

That amount-- in part - - -coming from a total 44 billion set aside for struggling americans from fema funding.

Something 7 other states are also doing.

But kentucky -- the only one -- according to beshear -- to throw in -- the state's allocated - cares act funding - to tip the scales.

"right now, it's just too important to get it to our families.

And knowing that it does, as it cycles through our economy, comes back and positively help our budgets."

But--challenges still remain.

The cares act's federal moratorium on evictions-- expired.

And theres' still lingering legal confusion in the state-- with political wrangling back and forth over court rulings and governor andy beshear's executive orders on evictions.

And september rent coming due -- likely -- before the funds will reach kentuckians.

Right now -- the program will cover 3 weeks of back-pay for late july and early august.

Governor beshear is expected to offer a more comprehensive plan to address the issue of evictions across the state.

He shared--that announcement is coming thursday.
