Rogue Valley Family Fest hosts back-to-school support for families

Rogue Valley Family Fun Fest, a back-to-school celebration supporting families in our Rogue Valley community, is hosting a Backpack and Student Wellness & Dental Exam Voucher Distribution on Thursday, August 20th, 5-6:30 pm at four local locations, as well as a Virtual Celebration with a raffle on Friday, August 21st.

A back to school celebration, supporting families in the roe valley.

The rhode valley family fund center is hosting a backpack and student wellness and dental exam boucher distribution.

They'll have a virtual celebration with a raffle and families with children and local schools.

Grades k through 12 are welcome to come and receive a backpack full of school supplies for the 2020, 2021 school year.

You'll hear to tell us more about that event.

So obviously it's been a challenging summer for you folks with all the rules that have been instituted to keep everybody safe.

How was this program going to be able to celebrate families in our area?

Well, normally we love the big festival where we have music and meals.

Games prizes.

Um, resource agencies normally come to reach out to the people in our community to show that we see and support them.

So we've made it an a two part thing.

So we can still give the students the school supplies, the tools they need that help them learn and, and recognize that we see them through all of this.

Um, you're their hearts.

We're doing more than keeping them safe.

We have that.

We don't want the best for them.

So on thursday night, we're going to give out backpacks full of school supplies for any.

Student in the valley who needs it and, um, k through 12 and as well as road, community health, we'll be offering well wellness vouchers, health checks, and dental exam vouchers, and 20 different stylists have offered free haircuts to almost a hundred students.

So how do you keep all that safe from folks that are too close and socially distance and all the things that we are all asked to do?

Here's the question.

Exactly.

So we set up four different sites.

Since it's just a kind of a pickup thing.

We didn't think we wanted to come into a, to ashlyn.

So we have four sites.

The first one is ashton, first methodist church.

The second is phoenix high school.

The third is jackson elementary here in medford and the fourth will be at the expo.

So we're trying to make it a little more community based.

It's kind of a drive through.

If people have a car, they come up, we give them the things that they need.

They don't have to prove need at all.

There's check in.

We greet the kids, we give them the bags they need and they keep going on.

Um, and that'll be running from five to six 30.

So tell us about the virtual celebration that put, puts folks in that raffle situation.

Yeah.

So on friday, all day, friday, um, i'm sorry.

When we hand out the backpacks, we're going to give them all this in printed in english and in spanish.

So that all day friday students can come to our website.

And various agencies from talent makerspace to the children's museum, sorry, have made interactive videos.

So students will get to build something, create something, make something based on the instructions.

And then they, if they choose to post it and they tag us and we see it, or they can email it, they want it more private.

And then for every entry, their name is entered in a raffle.

And again, people have been very generous with the price.

So we should, can we give those out?

So that's a lot for folks to keep.
