Assembly candidate has hospital concerns

Assembly candidate, John Zielinski, says he supports the downtown Utica hospital, but wants MVHS to improve relationships with employees.

The finances of the new downtown hospital.

And the labor relations at mvhs.

John zielinski says the original cost to build the facility was 480 million dollars....with 300 million coming from the state department of health.

He says the price tag went up to 549 million...and feels the state should give mvhs another 43 million dollars.

In return, he wants mvhs to have a better relationship with its three labor unions.

23:08:28 with the state putting in so much money, i feel that mvhs owes it to the community to be more labor friendly.

To sit down and negotiate contracts with the existing unionshat do notreducet reduce pay or benefs 23:08:46 these nurses especially, in the covid crisis, have been working in dangerous conditions - even having to reuse personal protective equipment and this is not a way to treat them or anyone on the front line 23:09:00 zielinski is challenging democratic incumbent marianne buttenschon.

Mvhs is in the process of laying people off -- after losing money in the pandemic.

We've reached out to mvhs for comment.... the vice president of marketing and communications says mvhs appreciates zielinski's support of the new hospital and looks forward to discussing his concerns.
