Online Learning Underway For Second Day
Online Learning Underway For Second Day

Sydney Martin was outside the Huntsville City School District's central office after talking with parents and students about how the online system is going so far.

61 total deaths.

New details.

Today - huntsville city school students wrapped up its second day of virtual schooling.

And tonight - we can show you what some of the online learning is like for students..

Waay 31's sydney martin is live outside the district's central office after talking to a parent and student about how the online system is going so far.

Many parents i talked to today- told me virtual school is going pretty well for their family so far, and although keeping their kids at home isn't ideal...they're glad they're safe.

"it's new but i also like it."

Blake nelson is a 3rd grade huntsville city school student.

He let me tag along for math and science lessons on tuesday..

Blake nelson, 3rd grader "it's different because we're on the computer."

Nelson's teacher shared her computer screen with the class so they could interact.

Laura huckabee- jennings, told me her daughter is a senior in the school system-- she told me the first few days are about getting prepared for the year..everything is going smoothly.

Laura huckabee- jennings, parent, "the teachers are way more organized.

The poor things in the spring they just had to jump into it.

Without a long time to prep.

They've had the summer.

It looks like they have done a lot of work getting to know the platforms and preparing their curriculum to be effective online."

Huckabee- jennings told me her daughter's school day wraps up around noon.

Laura huckabee- jennings, parent, "she's able to get all of her homework assignments done by 3 o'clock so it's actually much easier to manage her time than if she was face to face."

Huckabee understands families with younger students are probably not having as easy of a time..

Laura huckabee- jennings, parent, "it's a really different animal when your kids are small.

They're attention span is much shorter" nelson told me his parents busy at work - are also making sure he stays on task.

"my parents will get mad at me if i get up out of my seat and they actually see me going to do something else away from the school thing."

The only thing the parent i talked to told me she hopes she sees more of is one on one time with the teachers for students... and she hopes that something the district works on in the coming days and weeks.
