School district explains plan for virtual learning during power safety shutoff

Butte County schools are starting the year with virtual learning.

But what happens if there's no power due to a power safety shutoff?

Action News Now Jafet Serrato explains the plan.

Will top out in the 90's school leaders tell me they hope no one has to be in the dark - but if a shutoff happens- they're ready.

Earlier i told you how the district is looking to purchase generators... i asked the district superintendent ...what happens if a student has no power at home - how will they complete online work?

Will classes be cancelled?

Superintendent tom taylor tells me if in person classes are not taking place... and there is a power shutoff- the students would be allowed to work outside at district campuses.

But students would not be allowed inside classrooms. "students would be able to if they have any power at their home would possibly be able to access it, steal the information from school.

We have also students who actually go outside the schools and they would be there in the parking lot using the network from our school district."

Taylor says the positive component of virtual learning is that students would hopefully be able to finish their work in advance of a power is shut off.

Taylor also tells me if the district knows a scheduled shutoff is approaching then teachers can give students their work in advance.
