Students who tested positive over the weekend are now negative according to the Diocese of Evansville.

After members of a local high school football team --- were asked to quarantine-- they have now been cleared to resume practice.

44news reporter tyler druin joins us now --- after talking to parents that are frustrated.

"i'm frustrated that i feel like i am being lied to."

"is it about football education or greed, we are paying for out kids to go to school and we want to be told the truth" "i don't feel like the diocese is being transparent you don't have am mix up like this and not explain it to parents or students" three parents who have student athletes on the mater dei football team are outraged at how school officials reversed course on a potential covid-19 exposure "i found the email where they told us - to be quiet about things and not talk about it publicly like they were hiding something," originally school officials stated two student-athletes tested positive for covid-19.

"i am a sports fanatic, what is the mix up, how did these test results get mixed up" the email in question was sent out tuesday night - by a member of the mater dei coaching staff -- describing a mix up with information without explanation the coach telling the football community - the players actually tested negative for covid-19- asking parents to remain quiet - and not to go public.

This concerned mother has a player on the team- she is also a registered nurse - "now there are a lot of questions that arise about testing, if the kids were negative, a positive result would have never shown up in the first place if the virus wasn't present, we need answers" despite emails being sent out to parents and students - from administrators and coaching staff, one mother tells 44news that players were back on the field tuesday night before they were ever even made aware those tests were negative "ja varsity freshman and cub all practiced tuesday night, the majority of the team were on the field practicing" according to that email, practice was suppose to resume wednesday evening "of course the principal of mater dei wants to keep football, hes a coach and he has a child on varsity" those players who were in quarantine were given the all clear to return to class wednesday 'they're keeping everything quite, they want their tuition dollars and thats what matters to them" in evansville tyler druin 44news.

And late- breaking tonight--- the diocese of evansville responding -- saying in part-- that the office of education learned that covid-19 tests performed on two students were actually negativeãnot positive -- as previously reported.

As a result --- school officials contacted those identified --- and invited them to return to classes.
