The chico area recreation and park distirct -- or "card" is offering childcare options for working parents once the new school year begins.

Nicole acain/parent: what are us parents supposed to do with our children during those hours?

Ann willman/general manager, c.a.r.d.: we did come up with some care options at some school sites trying to provide some opportunities for supervision and assistance during the school day as well as after school care.

Ann wilman, general manager at c.a.r.d says this is open to students in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Ann wilman: during the morning time when children would normally be in school we will offer assistance connecting them to their classroom responsibilities.

The children will be taught by the wonderful chico unified teachers and our staff will be there to support them during the distance learning.

Nicole acain/parent: i think it's great they are offering this program to working parents.

But not every parent thinks it's a great idea.

Shastina zaragoza/parent: that's the reason why schools aren't opening so i think there is a risk of people getting sick.

Ann wilman general manager at card: there is some concern because we will be on school sites but we are following the guidelines and making sure the students are safe.

Kristian stand up: this is one of the schools where the program will be offered, each school will have room for about 40 to 50 students.

They will be broken up into groups to allow for social distancing and masks will also be required.

Card will also use shasta elementary, marigold, and the card pleasant valley recreation center.

Willman says they've been working with the butte county public health department.

Ann willman: parents are relieved that there is an option for them.

Not everyone has the flexibility to work from home and make sure their kids get the education they need.

Our goal was to offer a solution we know its not the solution for everyone but just being able to offer some options for families.

This is all set to begin on the first day of classes - august 16th.

In chico kristian lopez action news now coverage you can count on.

This costs about 100 a week and the after school option is another 55 dollars.

The money pays the staff who will be at these locations.
