Ashley Carter was outside the Madison County Courthouse after repeatedly asking why commissioners wont take action towards moving the confederate monument.

Standing "strong" - madison county commissioners say without state approval the confederate monument in front of the courthouse is not moving.

This vandalism is what commissioners passed before entering today's meeting where activists once again demanded the monument's removal.

They said the vandalism is another reason to move the monument.

Waay 31's ashley carter is live outside the courthouse after repeatedly asking why commissioners won't take action.

About 10 speakers spoke in front of the commissioners today asked that same question.

A few of them said the commission is dragging its feet and blaming state law because they don't want to move this now vandalized confederate monument.

I pressed chairman dale strong about activists who specifically called him out and why he won't take the statue down.

<nats/speakerstalking "why do we wait?

If we are bitten, if we are beaten, if we are hurting and we need to be healed, at no other place in time do we ask a person to wait."

Nats/speakerstalking "make the hard choices, make the difficult choices.

That's why we hired you to do this, that's why we trust you."

Emotional --- speakers once again pleaded with madison the state law was passed in 2017.

In 2015, when it was lawful, some activists started calling on the county to move the monument.

At the time strong said the monument isn't hurting anyone and you can't change history.
