A Step-By-Step Guide to Ensure Your Vote Is Counted

A Step-By-Step Guide to Ensure Your Vote Is Counted According to the United States Election Project, 46.9 percent of eligible voters did not turn out for the November 2016 General Election.

That’s approximately 100 million Americans not exercising their fundamental right to vote.

Here are five easy steps to help ensure your voice is heard in the upcoming 2020 election.

1.

Use online resources, such as vote411.org, to check your state’s deadlines and eligibility.

2.

Most states allow voters to register online by filling out quick, easy forms. If you think you're already registered, use vote.org to verify.

It doesn’t hurt to double check!

3.

Do your own research on each of the candidates before you cast your vote.

Use reputable sources to look at the candidate's platforms, past statements, records and plans.

4.

If you’re able to, vote by mail or absentee ballot instead of in person.

This will not only help reduce the impact of voter suppression efforts, it’s also a safer option given the current COVID-19 pandemic.

5.

If you are voting in person, make sure to have your day planned out.

Know where your polling location is, what time of day you’re going and how you’re going to get there.
