New hartford, is not going to happen.

The new hartford town board voted against changing the zoning of the property to accommodate the project.

News channel 2's caitlin irla tells us why some so passionately opposed this project.

.

None standup -- "this is the proposed property for the project.

In order for the project to happen, the zoning would have to change from commercial to plan development.

Residents tell me their issue isn't with the project, it's with the location" lisa - "its too big for the area."

"it would be changing the character of the neighborhood "we're not against the project we just thought it was a bad place to put it."

A rochester-area developer was hoping to put moderate-income housing off of woods highway, in new hartford.

But, in a 4 to 1 vote, the new hartford town board voted against the zoning change that could have allowed that to happen.

Residents i spoke with were opposed to the housing units being built here because of environmental concerns and possible increased flooding issues.

Judy "i have a problem with the environmental damage the project would have caused.

It's a wetland area, i just thought if you want to have a development like that, i have nothing against low income housing but there are other places in the town of new hartford that it could've been placed where it wouldn't have done any damage at all."

"we're happy on the outcome we wish them well, i'm sure there's a more suitable place for it.

I wasn't able to speak with residents who were in favor of this zoning change and the proposed 72-unit housing project or the developers.

But the town supervisor, paul miscione who voted against the zoning change, says from his perspective, there would be no benefit to the town from this development.

"there's affordable housing in new hartford and they're not even full.

So to bring another affordable housing project to new hartford, there's really no benefit at this point."
