Pandemic-- throwing the financial future into chaos --- one local charity-- is helping keep food on the table.

44news reporter erran huber is evansville with a look at the long line - of tri-staters in- need -- that formed this evening.

"it's a blessing.

There's a lot of good people helping everybody out with the pandemic going on, and i appreciate everybody that does all this for us."

A blessing-- being given to hundreds here in evansville.

The salvation army--hosting an other drive through distribution.

Handing out produce and dairy boxes.

They are packed full of the necessities -- families need in these trying times--for healthy eating.

"you're struggling with food, you're struggling to put food on the table, please come out.

We'd love to have you.

We've got a lot of canned goods, frozen meats, milk products after that, and after that we've got bread and we've got produce."

An army--of volunteers and coordinators-- troops on the front lines--of the war against hunger, as the tri-state fights a war-- against covid-19 and all its effects--on multiple fronts.

"we want to make sure that no one falls through the cracks.there are people coming to us who have never been to the salvation army or other social service agencies before.

They're out of work through no fault of their own.they're still trying to keep their families up.

They're trying to keep things together.

And food drives like this--where we're helping people--make a real difference."

If you missed tonight's drive through distribution-- you're not completely out of luck.

The salvation army will have its pantry open wednesday and thursday-- and say that based on tonight's response-- they're looking to do something like this again.
