Residence halls are among the latest facilities on Purdue's campus seeing increases in cleaning and safety measures amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Healthy campus this fall semester.

They have made changes within certain residence halls and to cleaning schedules.

As news 18's balint szalavari reports, many incoming freshman are happy that their safety is a priority as they arrive on campus.

Students living on purdue's campus will notice several changes this school year.

Cropper: "they recommend that if we are close in contact that we do wear a mask or that we keep them on while we're in our room."

As part of the protect purdue plan, several safety minded changes have been made in residence halls across campus.

Freshman charles graham says he noticed changes upon arrival.

Graham: "we were given these kits with alcohol wipes, you have a thermometer.

So i've sort of made a habit of every time i get back to my dorm, i just do a quick thermometer check to make sure i'm doing alright."

According to the university, several residence halls have been reconfigured to promote social distancing.

Dorms such as meredith and hawkins halls have been converted from double rooms to single occupancy.

Other buildings such as harrison hall are still allowing ltiple students like jada cropper to share a room.

She says the university has arranged each room in a way that maximizes social distancing.

Cropper: "right now they have it laid out to where one bed is completely against one wall and they recommend we don't move the furniture."

Freshman will gerstenkorn also lives in harrison hall.

He says he doesn't mind the layout.

Gerstenkorn: "it's just kind of a half and half thing, so it's already a little distanced.

It's not really a big issue."

The university has also increased scheduled cleaning in residence halls.

Bathrooms will be cleaned twice a day, every day.

And public areas and high touch surfaces will also be disinfected at least two times a day.

Move in has also been spreadt am august 14th to august 23rd.

Only two guests will be permitted to help with move-in and masks will be required.
