Schools in Daviess County Set Reopen Plans

Both Owensboro and Daviess County Public Schools approved similar plans to bring kids back to class.

The return to learning.

It was not exactly a unanimous decision for the board tonight, but owensboro has its school re-opening plan in place.

Those who wish to attend class in person will be split into two groups.

The first group will go to class in person in a school building on monday and tuesday.

Group b will go to class in person thursday and friday.

Wednesday is set for a full cleaning of the schools, with online learning when students aren't in class.

Kids do have the option of - a full virtual experience.

It s going to be interesting to how we get it implemented.

And that s going to be the key.

I feel good on the direction we re heading based on all the data we've be able to take in.

Owensboro students will be able to do extracurricular activities regardless of the lesson choice.

Sports though-- they re still waiting on guidance from khsaa.

Daviess county votes monday on a similar plan although if students are in a virtual academy, their participation in sports and extracurricular remains under district review.

But kentucky s governor sharing tonight-- it wouldn't be a shock for him to see adjustments across the state -- if the virus is still driving the bus - in the coming weeks.

"i would also not be surprised to see one of two things happening in a lot of districts.

Either a move to start with distance learning, or to move the start of the school year back at least a couple weeks in august."

With all the planning in place-- what it s really going to come down are the conditions in kentucky around covid-19 once the school year gets underway and keeps moving forward.

And it s also going to depend on the recommendation s of the green river health district and the governor.
