Searching for answers after death of local dog

Many of you are still looking for answers, that's after a dog died in a Terre Haute home.

News 10 went digging for answers.

To learn more about his condition.

Many of "you" are still looking for answers..

That's after a "dog" died... in a terre haute home.

Neighbors say they called police.... code enforcement... and the humane society... but nothing was done.

News 10's jordan kudisch spoke with the shelter... she's in our newsroom with their side of this story.

In a situation like this..

Especially when it comes to the loss of a life..

You want to know..

How it happened..

Why it happened..

And who's responsible.

So-- i started by speaking with the terre haute humane society.

Here's what i learned.

Over the weekend-- reports came in from "neighbors" about what "they" thought was an "abandonded" home..

And "dog" that was trapped inside.

Leaving the animal with "no" food..

And "no" water.

This was what we heard directly from "neighbors."..

Their side of this story.

They also say..

They reached out to the "police department"..

"code enforcement"..

And the "humane society."

On the other side of this..

The "humane society" says..

The dog was "originally" adopted from the shelter.

This means..

"if" reported properly..

It could have been returned to the shelter..

"no questions asked."

I went to the shelter myself..

They "are" still accepting dogs..

They are "not" full.

So i asked about their involvement with the situation.

The manager says... they couldn't go into the home to save the dog..

Here's why... "we can't just go out and go banging on the door or busting a door down, we're not allowed to do anything off the property.

If there's an animal on our property that's loose somebody has let go or let out of the neighborhood we can get it.

But if its off the property it's out of our hands.

" in the next half hour..

A statement from the terre haute police department.

Reporting live in the newsroom, jordan kudisch, news 10.
