Tupelo teachers express there concerns about the district's plans

Although some teachers commend TPSD for doing its best to protect staff and students from the coronavirus, they still have some concerns.

Tupelo public school district just released how administrators are going to navigate the school year during this pandemic.

This "path to recovery" is broken up into three sections.

Substantial, moderate, and low spread.

If there are no coronavirus cases, schools will continue in-person learning.

Administrators will still require students and staff to wear masks and follow social distancing guide-lines... up to 3 cases, students will attend school on alternating days or transition to remote learning.

More than three cases, administrators will shut schools for at least 14 days.

Wtva's alexis jones spoke to a few tupelo teachers and they shared how they feel about the district's layout.

Both of the teachers i talked to today commend tpsd for doing its best to protect staff and students from the coronavirus.

But they still have some concerns.

Pkg: sot: "nervousness and anxiety does exist among some of the school teachers" vo: jordan graham, a teacher for 10 years, said he misses his students, but he wants to make sure reopening is the right call.

Sot: "we want to be with the kids.

I promise all of us teachers want to be in class.

We want to be there, but we want to do it safely.

Vo: jordan said he understands how beneficial face to face learning is for kids.

He just hopes elderly staff and parents won't be at risk.

"i do believe the kids are safe, but at the same time we have adults teaching them.

Some young adults like myself probably will be fine.

Some older adults, maybe not."

Vo: cheryl dexter, has been a teacher for over 25 years.

She said her biggest concern is building strong relationships with parents.

She said it will be hard to keep them involved virtually.

But cheryl believes the students will be safe as long as everyone follows the district's plans.

"i do think they looked at every aspect of what is safe for our children, what is a good way to provide a good education for them and be safe at the same time" tag: tupelo's school district's plans to provide masks and shields to students and staff.

Students will have to spread apart and get assigned seats in buildings and on busses.

And school days will last for 6 hours at all levels.
