Community responds to day one of mask mandate

The rule went into effect today.

In tonight's team coverage -- it day one of governor brown latest mask mandate, requiring you to wear a mask outside... if you can't distance yourself by six feet.

Kezi 9 news reporter kennedy dendy joins us live to show us if people are following the rules.

Renee- you may want to think twice before leaving your house without a face covering... because now*you could be violating the rules if you find yourself not able to keep six feet of distance.

A lot of people i spoke with say they just wish people would be considerate of those around them by putting on the mask.

One perso told me they're going to wear the mask... even though it's not ideal.

The rule seems to be working --- but compliance is not 100 percent.

When i went out to local parks today, as well as downtown eugene&*more people than*not were wearing a mask.

But as one resident puts it...we're still not doing enough.

"i think that we should be putting masks on.

I think we should be thinking more about one another than what i see happening.

Im particularly concerned when i walk these bike paths but runners who are breathing hard and huffing and puffing...i dont know.

That seems to me a point of spread right there that's not being looked at very well."

Brown says people who violate her order are committing a class c misdemeanor.

That means any police officer in the state could cite you.

Businesses that don't comply with the order can be fined by oregon osha.

Again, this new rule went into effect today..

But as of monday, indoor gathering of more than*ten..are banned, with the exception of business operations and church gatherings.
