India sets Guinness world record for largest camera trap survey of tigers

India entered the Guinness World Record for carrying out the largest camera trap survey of its tiger population in 2018.

A camera trap is a motion sensitive photographic device which starts recording when an animal passes.

India placed camera traps in 26,838 locations across 141 sites in 2018.

The country's tiger population was found to be 2,927 in 2018, as compared to 2,226 in 2014.

The increase could be attributed to a more comprehensive survey, rather than an actual increase in tiger population, as per some experts.
